CIROH Social Science Assistant/Associate Professor

The University of Alabama (UA), supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) seeks applications for a social scientist, with expertise in social and behavioral sciences, to work closely with CIROH researchers and NOAA operational professionals to design and implement mixed methods research studies seeking to understand risk perceptions, attitudes, behaviors, and preferences of users of hydrologic forecast information related to floods, droughts, and water quality. The social scientist will: support and/or oversee research projects, in coordination with CIROH and NOAA/OWP collaborators; assume responsibility for monitoring, assessing, and supporting social science research projects being led by CIROH researchers; lead and/or make significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative proposals and projects; develop, organize, and participate in meetings, discussion sessions, workshops, and seminars related to research project assignments; assist in short- and long-term planning for the CIROH social science research portfolio; and actively disseminate research and project findings.

Hydroinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow II

The Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL) at Utah State University (USU) seeks a Postdoctoral researcher (Postdoctoral Fellow II) to advance cyberinfrastructure that supports large scale, reproducible hydrologic modeling. The selected applicant will work under the guidance of Dr. David Tarboton as part of a team of faculty, researchers, students and software engineers to advance the functionality of HydroShare and linked computing platforms for collaborative modeling as part of the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) and Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrated Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE). Applicants should have experience in hydrologic modeling and an interest in advancing modeling methodology and the data and information systems supporting hydrologic modeling to improve collaboration around and reproducibility of modeling results. This position requires a commitment to applying FAIR (find-ability, accessibility, interoperability, and re-usability) Data Principles and addressing the challenges associated with applying these principles in large scale modeling. This is intended as a two year position, with renewal in the second-year contingent on performance and funding.
