Title: Towards  the Integration of NextGen Water Prediction Tools into Operational Forecasting Systems at NWS River Forecast Centers
Abstract:  Currently the 13 River Forecast Centers (RFCs) of the National Weather Service (NWS) provide daily hydrologic forecasts at nearly 4,000+ forecast points across the the United States including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. These forecasts provide vital support to the NWS flood warning and water resources management programs. With NextGen Water Prediction Tools available in the coming years, there is the possibility to configure and integrate new Basic Model Interface (BMI) compliant hydrological models within the operational Community Hydrologic Prediction Systems (CHPS) deployed at the RFCs. This lighting presentation will provide the salient features of the NextGen Ready CHPS system which enables and supports the forecasters at each of the 13 RFCs to provide regional and local forecasts to their stakeholders.
